Rani Pathak

Rani, in Punjabi, means "Queen." She joined São Teotónio Basic School halfway through the year, landing in an unfamiliar and intimidating environment. Six months later, Rani was shining in the BOWING performance, with a blue veil under an illuminated tree in the midst of a forest, alongside other girls who had become her friends. She had rhythm in her body, moved effortlessly through the dances, but sometimes felt isolated due to not understanding their meaning. We explained to Rani that these movements represented the work in the greenhouses, the daily tasks her parents would perform. We translated the dances to make them understandable for those performing them, and that's when she immersed herself in our shared universe.
