Invitations

One of our practices was to invite artists and professionals from various fields to develop workshops with the participants. From clowning, architecture, the art of Tenchi Tessen and Portuguese language classes, the young people and adults in the project have been experimenting with many previously unknown practices for them. Although invitations to artists in projects of this nature are common, here we wanted to make visits a regular occurrence. From the second year onwards, we asked the guests to integrate Portuguese language learning into the sessions through their artistic practices, thus discovering other methods for teaching the language. The arrival of new people ensured freshness and kept the participants interested within a lively and curious ambience. The project was enriched by specialists in the fields of singing, music, artistic expression - among others - offering creative methods, artistic languages and communication tools that went beyond our knowledge. The visits of these artists and teachers were also very valuable for the team itself in that we were able to observe people from outside the project interact with groups we already knew well, sharing their approaches and perspectives. As well as inviting artists to visit the project, we also invited participants to see performances by artists who were passing through the Odemira region, offering them tickets to the events programmed by Lavrar o Mar. In this way young people and adults attended concerts, dance, theatre and new circus performances. In the case of the clown duo Bibeu et Humphrey, the artists developed a workshop with the students who went to see their performance on the same day. The participants' relationship with the performing arts has also evolved through these encounters, awakening interests that continue to this day.
