The live music in many moments of the project offered an involving dimension, transformation of atmospheres and dialogue with the action of the performances. Inviting musicians from multiple backgrounds resulted in the construction of intense and stimulating moments. The creation of live music helped participants contribute with musical ideas from their phones or even use instruments brought from home. They played flutes from the Nepalese mountains, sang Pakistani songs, and brought music from classical Indian traditions. Each year, a musician came responsible for bringing together a group of local and foreign performers to form a band and direct the music for each performance. In 2021 the musician André Duarte had this role, forming an oriental pop music band with Marc Plannels on the sitar, Márcio Pinto on the marimba, Pedro Salvador and Pramin Ghatani on the guitar, Rajendra Shiwakoti on the percussion, Vitória Faria on the accordion, Rémi Gallet on the saxophone and Manpreet Singh on the vocals. This musical group offered the performance an oriental flavour due to the sound of the citar played by Marc Plannels. Now and then, the performance moved towards more occidental pop music, which resulted in a very unforgettable mixture. In the 2022 BOWING BACK performance, Yaw Tembe was the musical director and his band, Chão Maior, with Norberto Lobo on the electric guitar, João Almeida and Yaw Tembe on the trumpets, Ricardo Martins on the drums and Leonor Arnaut on the vocals, was joined by Inderjeet Singh on the tablas, Pedro Salvador on the guitar, Lian Whitelegg on the bass, Muhammad Shoaib on the vocals and Rajendra Shiwakoti on the djambé. We ventured into introducing new sounds and different ways of making music, as was the case with free jazz in Yaw’s work. Pedro was a resident artist and facilitated many sessions in collaboration with Inderjeet and Rajendra. We found musicians and vocalists from the Asian communities who were part of the BOWING Bands.
